Weekly Legislative Round-up
Not a bad week. The day after it passes, a bunch of people are waking up to HR 800, but at least it doesn't have the votes to pass the Senate (If it were voted down, it would be the first bill so far to actually be voted down in either house). The straw poll is up, so go vote today! Oh, and the resolutions are back by popular demand.
Woah! The Senate needs to publish their calendars. I will make sure to get to some of this passed Senate stuff when it hits the house, but they could have told somebody about them!
Resolutions Passed:
- S. Res. 89, authorizing expenditures by committees of the Senate. This will be looked over and commented on if appropriate.
- S. 743, to amend title 36, United States Code, to modify the individuals eligible for associate membership in the Military Order of the Purple Heart. (not actually a resolution, but not very big)
- S. Con. Res. 16, calling on the Government of Uganda and the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) to recommit to a political solution to the conflict in northern Uganda
- H. Con. Res. 47, supporting the goals and ideals of a National Medal of Honor Day
- S. Res. 86, designating March 1, 2007, as ``Siblings Connection Day''
- S. Res. 90, commending students who participated in the United States Senate Youth Program between 1962 and 2007
- S. Res. 91, designating March 2, 2007, as ``Read Across America Day.'' (hurry, not much time left to [Senator Harry] Reid!)
- H. Res. 126, to commend the University of Southern California Trojan football team for its victory in the 2007 Rose Bowl
- H. Res. 103, to congratulate the Mount Union College Purple Raiders for winning the 2006 NCAA Division III Football National Championship;
- H. Con. Res. 74, to express the sense of the Congress regarding the need for additional research into the chronic neurological condition hydrocephalus (water on the brain, very bad)
- H.R. 800, to amend the National Labor Relations Act to establish an "efficient" (coercive) system to enable employees to form, join, or assist labor organizations
- HR 556, National Security Foreign Investment Reform and Strengthened Transparency Act of 2007
- HR 755, Promoting Transparency in Financial Reporting Act of 2007
- HR 1066, Depository Institution Community Development Investments Enhancement Act
- HR 644, Brownfields Redevelopment Enhancement Act
- HR 884, Promoting Antiterrorism Cooperation through Technology and Science Act
- H. Res. 42, to recognize Ann Richards' extraordinary contributions to Texas and American public life :)
- H.R. 990, to provide all low-income students with the same opportunity to receive a Pell Grant
- H.R. 1129, to provide for the construction, operation, and maintenance of an arterial road in St. Louis County, Missouri
- H.R. 494, to provide for the conditional conveyance of any interest retained by the United States in St. Joseph Memorial Hall in St. Joseph, Michigan
Next Week: None know for sure what the future holds.
Blog Related: The big news is that I may be starting a second blog, for which I would be paid (probably no more then I am worth, which is very little). I will try to keep both at a high level of quality, and if I have to give something up, it will be either sleep or sanity (not that I cannot give up both if I need to). Also, vote in the straw poll and continue rounding up friends. I continue to hit new "hits" records (for this site, not for the entire internet).

Well I voted again, this time for Richardson and Giuliani. Like I said I like Giuliani and Romney. To be honest I don't really know much about the Democrats at all, so I just voted for Richardson because you told me to. :P
And I think McCain was officially still in "exploratory" mode.
I knkow quite a bit about the Democrats--and I wouldn't vote for Richardson. Look at John Edwards...If Ann Coulter thinks she has to 'slur' him publicly he can't be all bad!
